Gum Contouring

After the removal of braces, this patient came to cosmetic dentist Dr. Eshom for help with a tooth that was abnormally smaller than the rest of her teeth. A condition called microdontia is when a single tooth is smaller than the average tooth size. Patients with this type of tooth can become easily embarrassed if the smaller tooth is visible during a smile. However, with help from an experienced cosmetic dentist, this condition can easily be fixed. To straighten her smile, Dr. Eshom of San Diego devised a plan that included porcelain dental veneers, dental crowns, and laser gum contouring. To fix her microdontia, cosmetic dentist Dr. Eshom placed a crown on that small lateral incisor, and then veneers were placed on the other surrounding teeth to create a symmetrical smile. In addition to her crowns and veneers, Dr. Eshom of San Diego contoured her gums, sanded and shaped her teeth as a finishing touch to her smile. With this new symmetrical smile, no one will know about her microdontia and will think she was born with perfect teeth!
The
next most conservative or minimally invasive way to make your teeth look
better is cosmetic re-contouring. Your natural teeth can be reshaped with
rounded edges to look younger and improve the appearance. Some tooth structure
is removed, but very little. No pain is involved. It is a fast and effective
approach that delivers instant results.
Be aware that already short teeth cannot be re-contoured. Call Dr. Eshom,
San Diego Cosmetic Dentist for a free consultation to see if this procedure
is right for you.
STEP 1: examination
Before starting this painless, one-appointment procedure, San Diego Cosmetic
Dentist, Dr. Eshom take x-rays of your teeth to make sure the pulp inside
your teeth is in good shape. (This can also help predict possible sensitivity.)
Then we will mark your teeth with a special pen to help guide Dr.Eshom
through the sculpting process.
STEP 2: prepping the teeth
A sanding drill is used to remove small amounts of enamel on the edges
of the teeth, and abrasive strips (like sandpaper) are used to shape the
sides of the teeth. As a finishing touch, the treated teeth are smoothed
and polished.
Who is it for?
Those who need to create an illusion of straightness
Who is it not for?
Re-contouring may not be ideal for people with already short teeth because
the teeth may not show when smiling and those with thin enamel because
it may make the teeth sensitive.
PROFESSIONAL POINTER

front teeth make someone look older. The more rounded the edges the younger
the person’s smile appears.
